Death is 'core business' of Scottish hospitals, study finds

More than a quarter of people admitted to hospital in Scotland are likely to die within a year, according to a study of more than 10,000 patients.

The University of Glasgow followed the progress of inpatients at 25 of Scotland's hospitals and found that 29% died within 12 months.
