NHS Trust 'blackened' whistleblower doctor's name

A senior cardiologist, who exposed concerns about patient safety at the Walsgrave Hospital in Coventry, has won an unfair dismissal case.

Dr Raj Mattu told the Today programme the University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust tried to blacken his name, during a witch-hunt that lasted for years.

He said he wanted a meeting with the health secretary, Jeremy Hunt, to discuss his treatment.

The trust said it was disappointed and would examine the ruling for grounds to appeal.
