Mines, mosquitoes and malaria

It was once almost eradicated in Venezuela, but now malaria is back in the country with a vengeance.

Last year saw the worst epidemic for over 50 years, with 75,000 people infected - and 60% of those cases are in just one tiny region, where illegal mining is booming.

This creates ideal conditions for the malaria mosquito, as Daniel Pardo reports.
