NHS: Should there be more competition for services?

Should there be more competition to provide NHS services like chemotherapy and care of the elderly in England?

And if contracts are placed with private suppliers who make a profit, does that undermine the ethos of the NHS?

Some recent large contracts are fuelling the debate, for example, one to provide cancer care in Staffordshire will be worth more than £1bn to the winner.
