A&E doctor's audio diary records pressure on department

As a number of hospital A&E departments declare 'major incidents', an emergency doctor has recorded an audio diary of his night shift to show the pressure involved.

The doctor, known only as "Dr Ali", revealed how he was forced to treat a patient with potentially critical abdominal injuries in an eye treatment room, because it was the only one available.

Dr Ali said the department was overcrowded and busy, but they could not tell people not to come because they did not "want to miss out" on treating those who needed it.
