Cost of care: I get no help, says 87-year-old woman

Peggy is 87 years old and lives in a local authority bungalow in Gateshead.

She is nearly blind, has arthritis, and is deaf in one ear, yet she receives no help with day-to-day living.

She struggles to wash, dress and cook for herself.

Peggy has not used her cooker in more than a year. She would like more help around the house but she can't afford to pay for it herself.

"You cannot sort of stand there and say 'help, help'. I haven't got anybody to do it. You can't say that. You've got to do it yourself. It's the only way."
