Church of England on three-parent babies concerns

The Church of England and the Catholic Church have called on politicians to prevent the creation of so-called three-person babies.

The procedure aims to prevent mothers from passing on serious and often fatal genetic diseases to their children bys using DNA from both parents and a donor to create a baby free of genetic abnormality.

MPs are preparing to vote on it early next week.

Church of England Medical Ethics advisor Reverend Dr Brendan McCarthy said that the church is not against the procedure - it just believes there should be more research into it.
