Three-person babies: UK is a pioneer

MPs will hold a crucial vote on Tuesday to decide whether to allow the creation of babies using DNA from three people.

They will have a free vote on the technique, which is aimed at preventing deadly genetic diseases being passed from mother to child.

It has sparked fierce ethical debate and senior Church figures have called for the procedure to be blocked, but supporters say it has the potential to end a great deal of suffering.

Rachel Kean has a family history of mitochondrial disease, a genetic disorder passed down the female side. She told BBC Breakfast she was was very excited that Britain was being a pioneer in the area.
