MPs back three-person baby fertility technique
MPs have given their backing to a scientific technique which allows the creation of babies using DNA from three people.
Members were given a free vote on the issue, as a matter of conscience, with MPS voting 382 to 128 in favour.
The technique uses a modified version of IVF to combine the DNA of the two parents with the healthy mitochondria of a donor woman.
Mitochondria are the tiny compartments inside nearly every cell of the body that convert food into useable energy.
