Prosthetic limbs made by 3D printers

Prosthetics - such as a hand, arm or leg - are needed by an estimated 30 million people worldwide.

But many are forced to do without due to a lack of skilled technicians to make them.

In Uganda, each of its 200 trained prosthetists has an average of 5000 patients waiting for a new limb.

And each amputee could need as many as 20 new limbs in their lifetime, meaning that demand far outstrips supply.

Now a team of Canadians and Ugandans are using a 3D printer to speed up the production process.

Catherine Byaruhanga reports from Uganda.
