Yvette Cooper: Government migration pledge 'in tatters'

Yvette Cooper has said that the government erred in making "grand promises that are now in tatters" over net migration.

The government had set a target of reducing net migration into the UK to below 100,000 by May 2015.

The final set of quarterly figures before the general election puts the current figure at 298,000.

The shadow home secretary criticised the concept of net migration targets as they ignore illegal immigration.
