Are osteoporosis drugs making bones more fragile?

New research shows that bisphosphonates, the main drug used to treat weak bones in the elderly, may actually be causing microscopic cracks, making their bones more fragile and prone to break.

Professor Justin Cobb, chair of orthopaedic surgery at Imperial College London, tells Radio 4's Today the "volume of micro cracks" found in the bisphosphonate bone was a lot larger than expected.
