John Launois: 1960s images from the Beatles to Malcolm X

Celebrated photojournalist John Launois captured images of many of the most famous people of the 1960s and '70s, including The Beatles and Malcolm X.

His photo essays and portraits appeared in many influential magazines such as Time and National Geographic.

Launois grew up in Nazi-occupied France during WWII, but longed to be an American from the moment he first saw a GI parachute down from the sky.

L'Americain was the nickname he was given as a young man - and is also the title of the memoir he began writing before his death in 2002.

His son Chris Pan Launois, who helped finish the book, talked to the BBC about his father's life and work.
