Syria civil war: Kinan Azmeh's lament for war-torn homeland

When Syrian musician Kinan Azmeh walks on to the world's most famous concert stage alone on Monday night, he will only be carrying his clarinet.

His solo lament, A Sad Morning, Every Morning, will be dedicated to the children of his homeland who are caught up in the brutality of the rebellion that has become a civil war.

The piece will open a charity concert at Carnegie Hall, organised by Music For Life International, with proceeds going to the medical charity Medecins Sans Frontieres (Doctors Without Borders).

Azmeh is an internationally renowned soloist who crosses many genres in his playing and compositions.

For now he has made New York his home, unsure when he will be able to go back to Damascus where he grew up and first learned to play.
