The goal that broke Brazil's heart
In 1950, Brazil and Uruguay faced each other in the deciding match of the football World Cup.
The Brazilians were confident of victory and had built the huge Maracana stadium specifically for the competition.
But the match did not go as they expected - Uruguay won. When Alcides Ghiggia scored the winning goal the stadium fell silent.
He spoke to Witness about the day he broke Brazil's heart.
Witness is a World Service radio programme of the stories of our times told by the people who were there.
