Hispanic mothers learning English to be better parents

New York City may be one of the most diverse and cosmopolitan cities in the world, but being able to read and speak English are still crucial skills for getting ahead.

A new research programme is trying to help Hispanic mothers learn the language and in turn improve the life chances of their children.

The mothers are filmed reading and playing with their children, with the class then holding group discussions about parenting techniques. The videos are also a way for the mothers to listen to how their English is improving.

The class is a collaboration between Literacy Partners, external and WHEDco (Women's Housing and Economic Development Corporation).
