Worthing International Birdman: One man's quest to win

Tony Hughes is a man who likes to fly.

He hang glides and is a flying instructor for micro light aircraft. For years, his big dream has been to win the Worthing International Birdman competition.

Competitors build wings to turn themselves into "human powered flying machines" and launch off the end of Worthing pier. The competitor that flies the furthest wins. While some wings are aerodynamic gliders worth thousands of pounds, others attempt to fly with little more than a fabric cape.

But the serious contenders have their eyes on the bonus prize - £10,000 for the first person to fly for over 100 metres along a prescribed course.

In the past 31 years of the competition it has not been won. Is this Tony's year?
