'Why I want to go to Mars'

Sonia Van Meter from Austin, Texas, was one of 200,000 people who jumped at the chance of a one-way ticket to Mars.

It was offered by Mars One, a Dutch not-for-profit organisation that intends to settle the planet by 2025.

Applicants had to send a video explaining why they wanted to go live on Mars.

Van Meter is now one of 705 people on the shortlist.
