US military veterans make history in Congress

The population of veterans in America has been on a steady decline for decades, which in turn has been reflected in the number of politicians who have done military service.

Within the current session of Congress only 20% of senators and congressmen are veterans.

But in the recent mid-term elections, veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan increased their numbers in Congress to a record level.

The BBC's David Botti takes a look at the history of veterans serving in Congress, and whether their common bond makes a difference in lawmaking.
