For the first time this Ramadan, Muslims performing pilgrimage in the Saudi city of Mecca, a city typically closed to non-Muslims, were able to share their experiences live with the rest of the world via a popular chat app.
"Mecca Live" on Snapchat came after a million messages were sent lobbying for it in a Twitter campaign.
Millions of Muslims expressed their joy online at seeing the city they consider the holiest place on earth featured on one of the most popular social platforms.
