Iran VP Masoumeh Ebtekar: Nuclear deal 'will help promote peace'

Iranian Vice-President Masoumeh Ebtekar has told the BBC that the recent nuclear agreement gives reformers like President Rouhani leverage over other political groups in the country.

While she insisted that Iran's intentions are peaceful, she acknowledged Iran's prominent regional role and said the country needs to defend itself.

Vice-President Ebtekar was talking to the BBC's Kim Ghattas who has spent the past week in Iran.

It is the longest time a BBC correspondent has been granted permission to report in Iran since 2009.

Kim Ghattas asked the vice-president what she thought the impact of the nuclear deal would be on the average Iranian.
