Iran 'seeking to rebuild trust with neighbours'

Iranian Vice-President Masoumeh Ebtekar has insisted that Iran's intentions are peaceful, while acknowledging Iran's prominent regional role and saying the country needs to defend itself.

She also told the BBC that the recent nuclear agreement gives reformers like President Rouhani leverage over other political groups in the country.

Vice-President Ebtekar was talking to Kim Ghattas who has spent the past week in Iran.

It is the longest time a BBC correspondent has been granted permission to report in Iran since 2009.

Kim Ghattas asked the vice-president about the regional impact of the nuclear agreement.
