After Paris, a peace song for Europe
After watching the Paris attacks on television, Alex Diehl, a 27-year old German singer-songwriter, wrote a peace song on his guitar and uploaded it to Facebook. Then he went to bed. When he woke up he was getting calls saying 'ein kleines lied' - 'a little song', external had been an overnight sensation on social media.
It's now been viewed more than six million times on Facebook.
The song begins with the lyrics 'Haven't we learned anything' and is partly a warning siren against repeating the type of xenophobia that plunged Europe into war last century. Alex says his immediate fear was that the Paris attacks would lead Europeans to blame the violence on the flow of migrants entering the continent in recent months.
He says he is channelling his hero John Lennon, and says that although peace songs are not as fashionable now as in the 1960s and 1970s, the world, and especially Europe, needs them now more than ever.
