Othello asks: 'Can a Muslim be an American'?

A new production of Shakespeare's Othello finds itself at a unique intersection of politics, religion and the arts.

Donald Trump's call to temporarily ban Muslims has been a rallying cry of his presidential campaign, and a point of fierce criticism among his opponents.

In Washington DC, Shakespeare Theatre Company's Othello sheds new light on the issue of Muslims in America by playing up Othello's Muslim roots.

He's played by a Muslim as well, Faran Tahir, a leading Pakistani-American actor.

The BBC's Jane O'Brien went to meet him.
