Miley Cyrus 'breaks away' from past squeaky clean image

Miley Cyrus says she's thinking of herself as a new artist ahead of the release of her latest single We Can't Stop.

But the 20-year-old, who became famous playing Disney star Hannah Montana, admits she's a new artist with an established fan base.

The singer also says she never went off the rails as she never pretended to be like her "squeaky clean" character on the Disney TV show.

Miley Cyrus was speaking to Newsbeat music reporter Sinead Garvan, who started by asking her about the MTV Video Music Awards.

She has been nominated for three VMAs for her track Can't Stop Us, which is out on 18 August.
