Alma: World's most powerful radio telescope up close
The world's most powerful radio telescope has begun scientific operation.
The Alma (Atacama Large Millimetre/Submillimetre Array) telescope in Chile's Atacama desert has begun its quest to view the formation of the first stars in the Universe.
The telescope consists of an array of giant antennas, on top of one of the highest plateaus in Chile.
Science correspondent Pallab Ghosh has been taking a look round.
