Sir Ranulph Fiennes leaves Antarctic base
Sir Ranulph Fiennes has left the Antarctic base camp after abandoning his polar mission because of frostbite.
The 68-year-old veteran explorer was stranded at the temporary base by bad weather. For the first time since he was injured the weather has improved and enabled a rescue team to reach Sir Ranulph.
He is being transferred to a Belgian Antarctic base before being airlifted to South Africa. The remaining team members will continue the mission to become the first people to walk across the Antarctic in winter.
