Tags reveal blue whale movement

In two separate studies, teams of researchers managed to attach tracking and sound-recording tags to 17 blue whales and two beaked whales.

The aim of their study was to show how the whales responded to the sound of navy sonar.

The findings from the studies are reported in two Royal Society journals, Proceedings B and Biology Letters.

In this clip, you can see an animation of the detailed information that these tracking tags have revealed - showing a blue whale's normal feeding behaviour.
