3D animation shows volcanic lava flow

An international team of scientists has created a 3D animation of a vast obsidian lava flow from a volcano in Chile.

Their study of the flow revealed that the "heaving rocky mass" was still moving more than a year after the eruption.

This short animation, created by team member Dr Mike James from Lancaster University, reveals the shape of this mass of black, rock-encrusted lava.
