Somerset floods: Dredging 'not the answer'

Farmers and MPs in the Somerset Levels have accused the government and Environment Agency of failing to take action by dredging the rivers.

Environment Agency chairman Lord Smith told the Today programme that dredging "is not the comprehensive answer".

He said it would only make "a small difference".

Lord Smith also said that the Environment Agency is facing financial constraints but is "trying to protect the frontline services".
