Science of the sun: Nasa releases solar flare footage

Nasa has released dramatic footage of a solar flare, captured by its Solar Dynamics Observatory.

The mid-level solar flare was emitted on 2 April, and reached peak intensity at 14:05 GMT.

Solar flares are powerful bursts of radiation, producing a sudden brightening on the sun's surface.
