Engineers build meat-analysing machine

The official independent report into the horsemeat scandal is being published on Thursday.

Professor Chris Elliott has been examining why stores and companies across Europe had to recall beef ready meals, after tests found they contained horse DNA in early 2013.

Now novel technology created in a laboratory could help in the fight against food fraud.

Pulsar, developed by Oxford Instruments in the wake of the horsemeat scandal, can identify meat in a matter of seconds rather than days.
