Northern Lights spotted in Britain's night sky

The Aurora Borealis - also known as the Northern Lights - have been creating a fabulous show across large parts of the Northern Hemisphere.

A strong geomagnetic storm hit the Earth's atmosphere, lighting up the night sky with colourful auroras much further from the poles than usual.

Along with the stargazers, photographers have been out and about - here are some of the pictures.
