ISPs under fire from Ofcom over broadband speed claims

Ofcom is seeking to stop internet service providers from advertising unrealistic broadband speeds.

Currently most ISPs advertise services as 'up to' a certain speed - for instance, 20Mbps (megabits per second).

But the communication watchdog's latest research suggests that very few consumers actually get these headline speeds.

Speaking to BBC Breakfast, Ofcom's Claudio Pollack said that ISPs should advertise a "typical speed range", rather than a theoretical maximum.
