Wireless car charge through electromagnetic induction

A technique of charging vehicles wirelessly is being tested on cars driving around the UK.

Electromagnetic induction enables drivers to park over pads which automatically charge batteries when the engine is switched off.

The company that has developed the system, HaloIPT says it could lead to vehicles being recharged as they drive along roads.

A similar project by Conductix-Wampfler is already running on buses in Italy.

BBC Technology reporter Katia Moskvitch has been taken for a spin in one of the prototype cars.
