Microsoft unveils Surface tablet computer

Microsoft has unveiled its own tablet computer to compete against Apple's iPad. The touch screen computer, called Surface, is Microsoft's first major venture into computer hardware.

Key features of the device will include a cover which folds out to form a keyboard and a widescreen display. The touchscreen devices will be powered by its upcoming Windows 8 system and contain a choice of an Intel or ARM-based processor.

Microsoft have not yet divulged pricing details or a release date.
