Google reading private emails in Gmail service?

A US law suit is claiming that Google reads private email messages sent and received in Gmail.

Nick Pickles, director of Big Brother Watch, told the Today programme's Justin Webb that "there is both a privacy problem and a completion problem" with Google and Gmail.

Kate Solomon, news editor of the website TechRadar, said that Google was collecting "an insane amount of data" and speculated that Google would not be able to store personal data for more than a few days.

First broadcast on BBC Radio 4's programme on Friday 16 August 2013.
