The flying wi-fi camera: Testing Parrot's new HD drone

Consumer drone maker Parrot has unveiled the latest version of its wi-fi quadcopter.

The 400 gram 'Bebop' drone will be equipped with GPS, a 14-megapixel camera and a 180 degree fish-eye lens when it is released later this year.

Thanks to on-board image processing and stabilisation, it can stream distortion-free HD images and video over w-ifi to mobile devices running Android or iOS.

Uniquely, an optional accessory connects to the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset, which gives users the ability to virtually experience an aerial view of the world through the eyes of the Bebop.

But how safe is it - and is it easy to control? The BBC's North America technology correspondent Richard Taylor briefly took it airborne, with the help of Parrot founder Henri Seydoux.
