India: Telecoms companies connecting women in rural areas
Mobile phones have taken a firm hold in many Indian cities but are not as common in rural areas. Network quality may not be the only contributing factor as mobile phone use by women is frowned on in some areas. Estimates say that half as many Indian women use mobiles as men.
However, mobile phone businesses have been fighting back. Local telecoms companies have been visiting rural villages to point out the potential benefits of women having access to mobile phones.
The BBC's David Reid followed a group of telecoms representatives who have been pitching "His and Hers" Sim cards in attempt to change the mindsets of Indian villagers.
