BBC Democracy Day: UK government 'world's most transparent'

The UK government has emerged as the most open and transparent in the world, according to global rankings looking at access to public data.

The man who invented the web - Sir Tim Berners-Lee - said the UK is doing well but is also one of the worst countries for spying via the internet.

Sir Tim, whose World Wide Web Foundation compiled the table, added that the country has "a long way to go" before it has a fully open government.

He called on governments around the world to publish more data to deliver true transparency and accountability.
