Could mixed reality be the future of mission control?

A mixed reality system, which could help with military operations, is being developed by defence company BAE Systems and the University of Birmingham.

Strategic decisions derived from artificial intelligence are relayed to the human mission commander through a virtual assistant.

The system, which uses commercially available technology, could also be used to help with the coordination of fire fighting or an emergency response to a chemical or biological attack.

BBC Click's Dan Simmons, who was granted special access to the early designs of the system, finds out more.
