European Commission promises new data transfer guidance
The European Commission has promised to issue new guidance about data transfers to the US.
It follows a ruling from the EU's most senior court, which said a current trade agreement concerning the matter - Safe Harbour - was invalid.
The European Commission said it wanted to avoid local privacy watchdogs issuing contradictory rulings now that they will be called upon to audit some transfers.
It added that work continues to agree a new pact that should offer EU citizens adequate protection from US surveillance efforts.
