Oscar nominee talks about creating the Ex Machina robot

Visual effects supervisor and Oscar nominee Andrew Whitehurst has explained the process behind creating the humanoid robot Ava for the film Ex Machina.

Made on a budget of just £10m, Ex Machina has gone on to win widespread critical praise and earned over £24m at the worldwide box office.

Visual effects company Double Negative worked on the creation and production of Ava using advanced motion tracking technology.

The film has been nominated for Best Achievement in Visual Effects at this year's Academy Awards.

Al Moloney spoke to Whitehurst about the lengthy process to turn Oscar nominated actress Alicia Vikander into the robotic Ava.
