Group calls for inquest into Dr Kelly death

A group of medical and legal specialists have written to The Times newspaper, calling for a formal inquest into the death of government scientist Dr David Kelly.

Dr Kelly's body was found in 2003 near his Oxfordshire home, after he was exposed as the source of a BBC story on the grounds for going to war in Iraq. The investigation into his death, conducted by Lord Hutton, concluded that he had committed suicide.

Dr Michael Powers QC is a former coroner and one of the letter's signatories. He says it is possible Dr Kelly took his own life, but he is unconvinced.
