Metropolitan Police say demo scenes 'embarrassment' to them

Thousands of students have clashed with police at Westminster during a mass demonstration against plans to treble university tuition fees.

Police earlier struggled to hold back the crowd outside Conservative HQ.

Ten people were treated in hospital, three of them police officers. Fires were lit, windows smashed, and some protesters made it onto the roof of the building.

Metropolitan Police Commissioner, Sir Paul Stephenson, has said he will mount a full investigation following what he called "embarrassing scenes."
