Labour responds to benefits plans

Ministers have given details of the biggest changes to the welfare state since it was set up after the Second World War.

Claimants who repeatedly turn down work will lose their benefits for up to three years.

The Shadow Work and Pensions Secretary, Douglas Alexander, has said the government's approach is misguided.

He said "welfare to work" will not succeed without more jobs for people to take up.
