Army faces 'tidal wave of low morale'

An organisation representing military personnel and their families has warned of a tidal wave of low morale sweeping through the British Army.

The Army Families Federation says it has been inundated with outraged messages from all ranks over what it calls the attack on military allowances.

The federation says military families, like many others, are struggling to deal with recent pay freezes, tax increases and potential redundancies.

It says one of its greatest concerns is over the continuation of education allowance - which allows military families, who are often on the move, to help pay for their children to go to boarding schools so they do not have to be constantly moved as well.

The BBC's defence correspondent Jonathan Beale reports.
