Vote 2011: Lib Dems 'biggest election setback since 1980s'
Nick Clegg has said the Lib Dems are being "blamed" for coalition spending cuts as the party suffers heavy losses in English local elections.
The Lib Dems face a wipeout in northern cities and have already lost almost 300 councillors in total, mostly to Labour, but the Tory vote is holding up well.
The SNP looks set to be the first party ever to win a majority in the Scottish Parliament, with Labour losing seats.
But Labour is making advances in the Welsh Assembly and on English councils.
