Ash cloud: Ryanair's Michael O'Leary criticises caution

Ryanair boss Michael O'Leary has said restrictions on flights in and out of Scotland are unneccessary.

The airline said it had been advised by the International Aviation Authority not to operate flights to or from Glasgow, Edinburgh or Aberdeen until at least 1pm because of the risk posed by the volcanic ash cloud.

But Mr O'Leary had said a test flight which travelled between the affected airports on Tuesday morning was not affected:

"There is no evidence of any volcanic ash. We inspected the aircraft, the wings, the engine, on landing - nothing."
