Met Police on London riots: 'Violence escalated quickly'

Police have condemned "individuals attacking communities" across London in a second night of disorder following Saturday's riots in Tottenham.

Enfield, Walthamstow and Waltham Forest in north London and Brixton in the south of the city, all suffered disturbances.

More than 100 people were arrested during the unrest that saw officers attacked, police vehicles damaged and shops looted.

Speaking to BBC Breakfast, Metropolitan Police Commander Adrian Hanstock attempted to reassure those affected, saying that the police were "here for London" and had "moved to contain the situation as quickly and safely" as possible.
